The Pittsburgh Region International Student Ministry reaches out to the many international students who are enrolled in our region's colleges and universities(primarily the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie-Mellon University). The staff and volunteers of PRISM help these students develop relationships with Americans outside of the classroom, and present the message of God's love through Jesus Christ for many who have never heard it before.
Old Union supports PRISM's ministry with $1800 during the year 2008.

Peki Seminary in Ghana
Peki Seminary provides training for pastors and other church leaders of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Ghana (west Africa). Although the seminary plays a crucial role in the growing ministry of this denomination, it is critically underfunded because of the nation's economic situation. Faculty are not paid regularly, facilities and equipment cannot be maintained and upgraded properly, and it is a struggle for the seminary staff to fund feed the students on a small budget. Old Union's support for Peki Seminary will help to lessen these financial struggles. Previous support has helped to rennovated the women's student dormitory and to purchase a photocopier.
Old Union supports Peki Seminary with $1400 during the year 2008.

Transportation for Ghana Pastors
During his three trips to the west African nation of Ghana, our pastor worked with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, and learned more about their needs and challenges. Each pastor of the EP Church serves an average of 7 or 8 churches. Transportation in Ghana is difficult for a number of reasons. Old Union is working with officials of the EP Church to determine where transportation assistance is most needed, and how best to address that need. For the most part, this means purchasing motorbikes for the pastors.
In 2008, Old Union will provide $1400 to the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, for motorbikes and other transportation assistance for pastors.

Theological Education Fund/Student Pastor
Old Union helps to support the education of future pastors for the Presbyterian Church (USA), so that we and other congregations can continue to enjoy the leadership of well-trained ministers. Depending on how circumstances develop, this support will be directed either toward a stipend for a student pastor to learn about successful small church ministry by working with us, or toward the Theological Education Fund, which subsidizes the Presbyterian Church's seminaries.
Old Union supports theological education with $1400 in 2008.

Mission Co-Workers Glen and Carol Hallead
In 2006, PC(USA) Mission Co-Workers Glen and Carol Hallead were
reassigned to Accra, Ghana where Glen serves as the Presbyterian Church
(USA)’s West Africa Regional Liaison (primarily for Ghana, Niger, and
Nigeria) with responsibility for facilitating relationships with partner
churches, institutions, and mission personnel as well as serving as a
resource for US congregations having a relationship with any of our
partners in the West Africa area. Also, within the country of Ghana,
Glen and Carol share responsibilities as Site Coordinators for the
PC(USA) Young Adult Volunteers program. In this capacity they are
responsible for the training, placement, and pastoral oversight of Young
Adult Volunteers working with our partners the Presbyterian Church of
Ghana and the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana. Additionally Glen
provides pastoral assistance to a variety of congregations affiliated
with our partners in Ghana. Prior to their ministry in Ghana, the
Halleads served as Mission Co-workers in Thailand and Kenya, as the
pastor of a church in Illinois, and as the associate pastor of
Westminster Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh.
Our relationship with the Halleads has three parts:
1. We share letters and emails with each other, to learn more about
each other and to encourage them in their work.
2. We pray for the Halleads and their work, and they will pray for
our congregation and its work.
3. We provide financial support for their work. While this is not a part
of the church’s budget, Old Union provides you with the
opportunity to contribute if you’d like. Simply mark your donation
“Hallead,” and we’ll make sure it gets to them.
